Explore Prehistoric Badenoch: 'Raitts Cave' by Kingussie

Organised by Badenoch Heritage: Bringing the Past to the 21st century

Discover amazing prehistoric archaeology at Raitts Cave an underground chamber on Balavil Estate with Eve Boyle, Historic Environment Scotland Archaeologist. This guided walk starts at Kingussie town centre where a minibus will transport you to the historic Balavil Estate. Enjoy this leisurely and fascinating walk led by an authority on Scotland's prehistoric archaeology and historic landscapes. The walk covers a distance of 3 miles (5km) and will last approximately 4 hours, along the way taking in an Iron Age souterrain (underground chamber), an 18th-century deserted township, a prehistoric hut circle and returning you to Kingussie town centre by foot. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Time: 4 hours. Grade: Easy-moderate in places (not suitable for all accessibilities).
